SharePoint Governance Plan Perceptions Survey Phase One Released by Axceler

In a classic example of do as I say, not as I do, “Almost Half of Survey Respondents Lack Clear Governance Plan” from Fierce Content Management reports that although a recent Axceler survey shows that more than half of enterprises recognize that SharePoint governance is “very important” (and an additional 17% call it “extremely important”) that 37.9% have “not very well defined” governance plans and 9.1% have no governance plan at all.

Not only that, 64.9 percent viewed SharePoint as a strategic enterprise platform. It seems more than contradictory that these organizations lack a coherent governance plan, yet view governance as important and SharePoint as a strategic platform. It doesn’t bode well for these companies if they don’t see planning for governance as part of their mission.

If you would like to download the entire survey, you may register and do so at Axceler’s SharePoint Governance Perceptions Survey Phase One page.  For a summary, see the official press release on the survey.

We are not surprised by the results of this survey.  Most organizations have an idea of what needs to happen with SharePoint but are unable to follow through.  It helps to have the assistance of a tool like the Semaphore Content Intelligence Platform.  Smartlogic’s semantic technology helps organizations better govern unstructured content through metadata management.
