Microsoft SharePoint User Adoption – SharePoint Joel Shares What Works
Joel Oleson of the SharePointJoel.com Blog discusses SharePoint user adoption in, “Can Software Increase User Adoption?” Oleson writes the piece as a response to the argument posed to him that software and tools don’t really increase SharePoint adoption. Oleson’s thoughts:
To me, it seems like a lot of SharePoint’s barriers to entry have to do with the complexity of performing what should be simple tasks. Third party tools can fill these tools and dramatically improve the user experience. When it comes to managing documents and document metadata, simplifying the user experience seems to me to be something that would really make a difference.
Oleson goes on to explain that the right tools and software coupled with a growing sense of community and effective user education can lead to successful adoption.
We agree. Enterprise search is a hefty investment. For a way to cut costs while improving the user experience, consider the Semaphore Content Intelligence Platform. The experts at Smartlogic explain, “Often too little time is spent thinking about the user experience, and the risk is obvious—while the new search has all content ready to be surfaced, the users are overwhelmed with results, or underwhelmed by the experience. The goal of Semaphore Search Application Framework is to provide a great search experience out of the box by allowing users to tweak and customize to meet application specification requirements with minimal development effort.” Read more at Smartlogic.
