Basics of Microsoft SharePoint 2010 User Profiles Explained
Reeza Ali provides some handy links and a table to better understand SharePoint Server 2010 user profile properties in his article, “Configurable Policy Settings for User Profile Properties.” Ali explains the basics of user profiles:
Each user profile in SharePoint Server 2010 contains 46 default user profile properties. These user profile properties store information about a user. An administrator can apply a policy to a user profile property to configure how personal information is used. Depending on the selected user profile property, some policy settings are configurable, while others are not.
If you’ve been looking for a way to understand which properties, such as the account name, phonetic names, hire date, display order, source object, or time zone, are configurable and how, you’ll want keep Ali’s table handy for easy access.
