Rockin’ the SharePoint Wiki” is Kerri Abraham’s last post on EndUserSharePoint.com.  In it, she extols the virtues of the SharePoint wiki and also gives tips for making the SharePoint wiki work at its best.

To be useful, the wiki must be easy to navigate and provide all of the resources the SharePoint end user needs linked into the wiki Home page.  In this way the wiki can be a one-stop shop for information about every task team members need to accomplish.  Contributions are limited in order to make sure the information is accurate.

The links at the top of the wiki are based on usage.  What appear to be buttons are actually nested tables created in Microsoft Word because these are much easier to load than images, but they are difficult to create.  To make this easier, the author has include a link to her Word template.  Not everything goes in the wiki, but the wiki does tie it all together.  The article gives the steps for making the wiki layout with Easy Tabs.

Editing and modifying the wiki is perhaps the least scary of all SharePoint work because of those awesome version history settings. The page can be reverted back to original at any time during the process. So don’t hesitate — Jump in!

Well managed wikis can be a handy tool for organizations.  For user-created SharePoint content, however, finding what you need may prove more difficult.  The Semaphore Content Intelligence Platform from Smartlogic uses semantic technology to aid users in finding, discovering, and reusing their valuable information assets.
