We have written about metro style before in posts like “User Interface Changes with Metro Style for LOB Applications.”  Today we have come across “SharePoint vNext will be Metro Style” from the SharePointEduTech blog.

This succinct article makes three basic predictions for the next version of SharePoint:

  • Microsoft will break their neck NOT to release SharePoint vNext in 2013
  • Steve Ballmer will announce the release of SharePoint vNext at the Las Vegas conference
  • SharePoint vNext will be metro style

The author, Dave Coleman, feels certain about his first two predictions and does not go into detail about them, but for the metro style prediction he asserts that metro style works well for Windows Phone and that metro style would tie in SharePoint with the next desktop OS.

Whether the next version is metro style or not, SharePoint search will still be crucial to user productivity.  The Semaphore Content Intelligence Platform from Smartlogic fills in the gap between SharePoint out of the box and users’ expectations for search performance.
