Results of Metastorm Survey on Microsoft SharePoint in the Enterprise
Metastorm reports on their “How are Businesses using Microsoft SharePoint in the Enterprise? Fall 2011 Market Survey” in “Survey Says Lack of Business Strategy Among Top Concerns of SharePoint Deployments.”
This survey, which is conducted every six months, had 362 participants from multiple industries around the world. There were three key areas of results. The first is that SharePoint 2010 deployments now exceed SharePoint 2007, which is a dramatic change from the Fall 2010 survey results. However, the survey found that organizations still lack a clear business strategy. Second, business process management and workflow are the top third-party applications. 67% said that they use or plan to start using BPM or workflow. This is not surprising considering that more than 23% said that more than half of their mission-critical documents are stored in SharePoint.
“Given the high volume of mission-critical documents stored, organizations need to fully understand and automate the process flow of these documents.”
Third, the survey found that there is a growing concern about the lack of business strategy in the respondents’ SharePoint implementations. In the previous survey this concern was ranked fourth, but it has moved up to be the second highest concern of SharePoint users.
If your mission-critical documents are stored within your SharePoint environment, make sure that they are fully accessible to your end users. The Semaphore Content Intelligence Platform from Smartlogic provides taxonomy and ontology management, automatic classification, and contextual navigation to ensure your users can find and re-use your organizations unstructured content.
